Program:     Introduction to Tubular Daylighting Devices           HSW:        Yes

Description:  Learn about the latest advanced optical daylighting technology and a new product category – the Tubular Daylighting Device (TDD) which makes daylighting a space as easy as applying traditional lighting equipment.  After a brief overview of typical daylighting strategies and key energy- and human performance-based reasons for daylighting today’s buildings, the audience is introduced to the three technology zones that are common to every TDD.  Commercially-available component-technologies are compared and contrasted, allowing the designer to make informed decisions when choosing the appropriate TDD technology for their application.

Learning Objectives:  After this presentation the audience will:

  1. Understand why daylight is so important and identify the reasons for using daylight in commercial environments.
  2. Identify the available Daylighting Strategies and identify their advantages and disadvantages.
  3. Be able to describe the three technology zones that make up Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs.)
  4. Be able to list the tools and resources available to help incorporate TDDs into projects.

Target Audiences:  Architects, engineers, designers, specifiers, and building owners involved with building in the commercial/industrial, retail, or institutional markets.  Any audience size can be accommodated.  The program contains information for any experience level and has time designed into the program for questions and answers.
